Colombo: Only four days are left for the start of the new edition of the Asia Cup. But as a threat to the tournament, the covid infection has reached among the players. The players of the current champions Sri Lankan team have been confirmed infected.
Sri Lankan batsmen Kushal Perera and Aavishko Fernando have been confirmed to be infected with Covid-19. Both the actors are now under surveillance. Both will get a place in the Asia Cup team only if they recover quickly. There are reports that the players got sick in the last stage of the Lankan Premier League.
Earlier leg-spinner Vanindu Hazaranka and pacer Dushmantha Chameera were out of the team. Both of them did not get a place in the team due to injuries sustained during the Lankan Premier League. The absence of Hazaranka, who was in great form, is a big setback for the Lankan team.
Sri Lanka’s first match is on August 31. The opponents are Bangladesh. Sri Lanka are trying to retain the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka have won the Asia Cup six times, with their first victory in 1986 when they hosted the tournament for the first time. Colombo final match on 17th September
