SRE Undersecretary concludes work tour in Saudi Arabia

Mexico City. The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, María Teresa Mercado Pérez concluded her work tour in Saudi Arabia. Representing the chancellor, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, she made a working tour on April 28 and 29 in Riyadh, the capital and main business center of that country.

The undersecretary held activities within the program of the Special Meeting on Cooperation, Growth and Energy of the World Economic Forum.

Accompanied by the governor of the state of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila, Undersecretary Mercado participated in the Country Strategy Dialogue on Mexico Global Shifts, Mexico’s Moment and North American Framework panel, to promote and promote investments for priority projects such as the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec , the Mayan Train and the Sonora Plan.

Likewise, he held various meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Yemen, Shaya Mohsin Zindaniy; with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Envoy for Climate Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Adel Al-Jubeir; as well as with the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, Waleed Bin Abdulkarim Al Khereiji.

Likewise, the senior official met with the Minister of State of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi; with the assistant for Political Affairs and International Negotiations of the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Abdulaziz Al Awaishig, and with ambassadors accredited in Riyadh, familiar with the case of the Galaxy Leader boat and the kidnapping of its crew.

In the different meetings, the undersecretary spoke and exchanged impressions about the conflict in Gaza, the situation in the Middle East and the efforts deployed on different fronts to seek the release of the hostages, both in the Gaza Strip and in Yemen.

In this regard, he emphasized Mexico’s position in favor of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the need to respect international humanitarian law in the conflict and the two-state formula as the only viable and definitive solution for the conflict. conflict and to promote stability in the Middle East.
