SRE issues recommendation not to travel to the Middle East

Mexico City. In light of the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) recommended that Mexicans not travel to countries such as Israel, Lebanon and Iran, and that those who are in that region “schedule their departure as soon as possible.”

In a statement released on Sunday evening, the Foreign Ministry issued recommendations to Mexicans in light of the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the increased level of risk with consequences that are difficult to predict in terms of security.

“Non-essential travel to the region, particularly to Israel, Lebanon and Iran, is not recommended as consular assistance and protection efforts may be seriously impacted.

“For Mexican people who are currently in these countries, it is suggested that they plan their departure as soon as possible. There are commercial routes available to leave safely. Departure options could be drastically limited without prior notice, so it is not possible to guarantee that there will be conditions for a safe and expeditious evacuation of Mexican people in the near future,” he said.

Alerts have been raised in the Middle East after Iran and its allies, mainly in Lebanon, are expected to prepare a response to the assassinations of Islamist leaders that are attributed to Israel.

The SRE made available the emergency telephone numbers of the Mexican embassies, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week:
