SRE and Arizona government approve biometric identification law

Today the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) highlighted that the Ley SB1420 “Consular identification, validity: biometric verification”. He also stated that Douglas A. Ducey, Governor of Arizona signed it yesterday.

The face, fingerprints, and body movements are unique biomedical characteristics of each person. This data is increasingly used to pay online or to identify yourself. For this reason the law is very important in matters of security and identity.

This new proposal reforms state law with the objective that the authorities in Arizona accept consular identifications that use biometric identification. In a more concrete case the High Security Consular Registration (MCAS), which is issued by the Mexican consulates in the US.

In addition, the SRE indicated that promulgating this law means “the commitment of the Arizona government to strengthen its relationship with Mexico, its main commercial partner, and sends a message of friendship to our country.”
