South Korean actor O Yeong-su, one of the stars of the wildly popular Netflix series Squid Game, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in 2017, the prosecutor’s office announced on Friday.

The 79-year-old actor became the first South Korean to win a Golden Globe in 2022, for best supporting actor in a TV series. He appeared as the oldest member of a group of adults who have to play deadly children’s games to earn money in the dystopian series on Netflix.
He was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years. In addition, the South Korean actor must take a forty-hour course on sexual misconduct.

An investigation was opened in 2022 after O Yeong-su was accused of sexually assaulting an unnamed woman twice in 2017.
Since the launch of Squid Game in 2021, the series has been watched by more than a hundred million people. It remains one of the most popular series on Netflix.
