It was coming, but now it’s official. Squid game, the South Korean series that has become a huge hit on Netflix in recent months, is getting a second season. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk confirms this in an interview with AP. “But it’s too early to say exactly what the new series will be about.”

A little quick for who Squid game haven’t seen yet: 456 adults are taken to a remote island to play a series of ‘children’s games’. Only those games are far from harmless and participant after participant is eliminated. Whoever lasts until the end will receive a large sum of money.
Not so long ago you couldn’t access social media without clicking on videos, photos or discussions about Squid game to bump. It is still the most watched Netflix series ever. So a sequel was written in the stars. “It’s in huge demand, it almost feels like the audience is leaving us no choice,” screenwriter Hwang Dong-hyuk said in an interview with AP. “But I can tell you that there will indeed be a second season.”

“I’m busy planning,” he continues. “But it’s too early to say what the new series will be about, or when it will be shown.” To get the first season made at all, the director had to move heaven and earth. He previously said that the success of the series does not mean that he suddenly has money to spare. “Netflix didn’t pay me a bonus because Squid game has become such a success. After all, that was not in the contract.”
