Square breathes new life into the strategy game Tactics Ogre

Recently, there have been rumors that Square Enix planned to bring the Tactics Ogre series out of a dusty drawer. Now the developer has confirmed that this is true, and Tactics Ogre: Reborn coming November 11.

The combat system has been given an overhaul.

According to Square, the game is a greatly improved version of the PlayStation Portable version from 2010 – which in turn was an upgraded version of the SNES game Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together from 1995.

This time, characters and backgrounds await in high definition, as well as an overhauled user interface. The game also entices with voiced dialogue – in either English or Japanese – as well as improved sound and music.

As far as the actual gameplay is concerned, the combat system has been redesigned, to allow for more freedom of choice and tactical moves on the battlefield. The battles also play out faster than in the old days, while enemies have become a bit smarter.

Otherwise, the story is the same old. We follow Denam Pavel and a bunch of companions through a great war which, among other things, involves the inheritance of a kingdom and disputes between different ethnic groups. You have many opportunities to develop your main character as you wish, and the choices you make during the game can have drastic consequences for where the story ends up.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn kommer til PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 og Nintendo Switch.
