Storm low “Luis” caused extremely uncomfortable weather with strong gusts and rain in Baden-Württemberg on Saturday. The German Weather Service (DW) temporarily warned of strong thunderstorms and lightning strikes. Hurricane gusts occurred on the Feldberg at speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour, said a DW spokesman.
In the morning in Karlsruhe, a large tree fell on an overhead line and partially paralyzed a tram line. The fire brigade was busy for hours to get the tree out of the line, said a spokeswoman for the Karlsruhe Transport Authority (VBK). Repair work should then begin. It was still unclear when the affected tram 4 could run its usual route again.

In the urban area of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, construction fences fell over, roof tiles and branches were blown onto the street by the wind, the police said. In front of a shell in the Freiberg district of Stuttgart, numerous Styrofoam panels intended for the insulation of facades were blown around, which the fire brigade had to collect again, according to a spokesman. There were no major incidents, and no major property damage had been reported, it said. An aircraft that was supposed to circling with a banner over the state capital as part of a Stuttgart theater action on the anniversary of the corona lockdown was not allowed to climb.
On Sunday, the storm would cool down again, as the DW spokesman said. During the night, a blast of cold air pulls into the country and real April weather is forecast in the southwest: “There will be rain showers and, at times, sleet showers,” he said. Snow falls in the mountains.
