The list of outgoing deputies included 10 deputies affiliated with the Forces for Change, deputies from the Kataeb “4 deputies” bloc, representative Michel Moawad, a presidential candidate of the Lebanese Republic, and some of their supporters.
The head of the Kataeb party, MP Sami Gemayel, said – before his departure – that the purpose of this session is to fuel sectarian conflicts and constitutional disputes, and therefore it is illegal.
Meanwhile, Lebanese MP Melhem Khalaf, who is part of the Forces for Change, felt that the House of Representatives should meet to elect a president and not another topic, so we will withdraw from the session, as it is unconstitutional.
Parliament President Nabih Berri responded to the speeches of some deputies that preceded the discussion of the President’s message that the intentions are good and does not cause sectarian conflicts.
The session began at eleven in the morning to read the message from former Lebanese President Michel Aoun, which he addressed to Parliament last Sunday, a day before the end of his presidential term.
