Game news Squadron 51: 50s Sci-Fi-inspired Shoot’em Up is coming
–
With a retro approach as much in the graphic style as in the type of game experience offered, Squadron 51 is the first title from the Loomiarts studio which wishes to pay tribute both to the Science-fiction of the 50s but also to the Shoot’em Up and FMV from the 90s.
Openly inspired by science fiction classics of the 50s and 60s such as War of the Worlds, Godzilla or even Doctor Strangelove, Squadron 51 is a side-view 2D Shoot’em Up with 3D backgrounds and black and white graphics planned for this year.
However, the homage to cinema goes even further since the game will feature live-action FMV cutscenes, always in black and white, to tell the story of the invasion of Earth by the alien Zarog and the VEGA Corporation who will face human resistance led by the rebel group Squadron 51 of which you play Lieutenant Kaya.
With four different types of aircraft whose special weapons can be customized, the game offers 11 different environments obviously all ending with a boss to beat. As well for the neophytes as for the veterans, the title includes a dynamic difficulty that adapts to the player’s way of driving to make the experience easier or more difficult. Finally, the game is also playable in cooperation with another player who can join the game along the way.
Squadron 51 will be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch later this year.
