The Porsche 718 Boxster EV was recently tested for the first time on the road. Porsche has previously confirmed that the Cayman will also have an electric powertrain and will be launched in 2025.
The Boxster and 982 Cayman were launched in 2016 and will be the final iteration of Porsche’s two-seat internal combustion engine sports car.
The 718 Boxster will be Porsche’s third pure electric vehicle, following the electric vehicles Taycan and Macan which will debut in 2023.
Porsche earlier this year unveiled the Mission R electric car concept. The captured 718 Boxster is seen in almost Mission R styling, with slimmer, more horizontal headlights and a tall rear bumper.
Speaking at Porsche’s corporate update earlier this year, CEO Oliver Blume said “Mission R will be the inspiration for our mid-engined 718 sports car series. Midway through the decade, we wanted to shake up this series. We wanted to make the 718 series purely electric.”
Both the Mission R and the Cayman GT4 ePerformance feature a supported 82 kWh battery pack the engine dual electric with a power of 800 kW.
With this massive power, the Mission R and the Cayman GT4 are capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 290 km/h.
Porsche itself has not announced the full specifications of the 718 Boxster EV. However, referring to the Porsche CEO’s statement that the Mission R was the inspiration for the 718 Boxster EV, it can be temporarily concluded that the 718 Boxster will have no-nonsense performance.
