According to the intelligence services, the defendants in the criminal case are citizens of Moldova and the Russian Federation. In particular, two Russians are among the suspects.
“We managed to liquidate the network of agents involved in treason and espionage. A criminal case on treason and espionage, initiated against a group of people who were preparing to destabilize the situation in the country, was submitted to the court,” Mustyatsa said at a press briefing.
For this, the head of the SIS added, Moldova received about 500 thousand dollars through unofficial transfer networks from the Russian Federation.
The Russian Embassy in Moldova is “perplexed”
After a press briefing by the head of the SIS of Moldova on July 10, the situation was commented on by the Russian Embassy in the country. Russian diplomats said they learned about this “spy scandal” from the media “with bewilderment”.
At the same time, the embassy statement states that “Russia, unlike the West,” allegedly respects the sovereignty of other states and does not interfere in their internal affairs.
The very situation with the criminal case on the spy network, in which two citizens of the Russian Federation appear, was connected in the diplomatic department with the “coordinated anti-Russian line of the collective West.”
Liquidation of the agent network in Moldova
Earlier, at the end of winter, the SIS of Moldova announced an investigation, together with the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, of the case of treason and espionage, which was carried out by an agent network. It included citizens of Moldova and another state.
During the investigation, five citizens of Moldova were identified, of which two were arrested in December 2022, and three more received the status of suspects. According to the investigation, they were recruited by the special services of another state with the aim of forcibly trying to destabilize the situation and change the constitutional order in Moldova, the SIS informed.
As part of this case, the special services also found citizens of another state who were engaged in espionage.
Preparations for a coup in Moldova

The Intelligence and Security Service of Moldova (SIS) confirmed the receipt of information from Ukrainian intelligence about Russia’s plans to destroy the political situation in the country.
As Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stated at the time, the Russian Federation planned to carry out a coup in Moldova and sent Chechen “rescuers” to Turkey, and after that they could end up in Chisinau.
