An end to the negative trend?
SpVgg Greuther Fürth still needs ten points from the remaining 23 game days in order not to set the negative record of the club Tasmania Berlin, which lost in the first Bundesliga season 1965/66 at the time – the number of points is still easily possible. But current failures such as the Corona-related defender Luca Itter do not make the situation any easier. In addition, compared to the competition in the first division, the club lacks the financial means to add more during the winter break.
Fürth has the smallest budget in the league with 17.7 million euros, which roughly corresponds to the salary of Robert Lewandowski. The free transfer of national player David Raum to TSG Hoffenheim and the change of other heroes of promotion could not be compensated at the same time. Overly daring transfers in winter can therefore be ruled out. But in Fürth they all agree: Relegation would not be dramatic for the club in the end.
