RDIF chief Kirill Dmitriëv gave no further details. Earlier in the day, the Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce reported that an agreement has been reached to start producing Sputnik-V in Italy. The Italian-Swiss pharmaceutical company Adienne is said to have agreed to make the drug after talks with RDIF, responsible for financing and marketing the vaccine.
Lombardy
According to the trade association, production is planned to start in July at a factory in Lombardy, northern Italy. By the end of the year, 10 million doses of the vaccine should be produced in Italy. If production continues in Italy, it will be the first place in Europe where Sputnik-V is made. It is already made in other places outside of Russia, such as in India.
Sputnik-V is not yet approved in the European Union, but is used in at least 45 countries worldwide, including Serbia. If the drug is not approved before 1 July, the RDIF will buy up the doses and then sell them on to countries where Sputnik-V is already used, says a spokesman for the trade organization.
Adienne and the Italian Ministry of Health have not yet responded to the announcement.
