NEW YORK — It seems like just a month ago we were celebrating the low snowfall in Central Park (we did, getting an inch for the first time in 701 days) and now we’re bracing for possible thunderstorms.
Clouds are expected to increase throughout Tuesday as a warm front approaches the tri-state area. Much of the day remains dry, then rain chances increase from west to east during the afternoon and evening hours.
In fact, low cloud cover and dense fog made morning travel difficult for some people on Tuesday with visibilities of less than ¼ mile, especially over Long Island and Connecticut which were under a dense fog warning all morning.
Although the sun will peek out from behind the clouds Tuesday afternoon, expect a mostly cloudy afternoon with highs near 60 degrees. During the afternoon it will rain again and is expected to continue until Wednesday night.
The heaviest rain will fall on Wednesday after 6:00 pm, when a cold front will move over our area perhaps even causing some thunderstorms with wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph.
By Thursday morning the rain will end but cold air will return with wind chills in the single digits across the northern counties. Fortunately, the chill won’t last long and temperatures will return to the 50s over the weekend, when rain will also return.
