Lhe volunteers of the Genêts d’Anglet foot will be on the attack from dawn on Sunday 30 April for their traditional spring garage sale, which attracts an ever-growing crowd under the covered garage of BAB2. With the crisis and new buying habits helping, barters are currently making a fortune. The opportunity for the yellow and green club to bring back subsidies for its operation.

“The idea is not new,” recalls Pierre Gourgues, in charge of communication for the English club. After some research, he adds: “The first big organization of the club was the lotto in 1995, it was held in the sports hall of El Hogar. The first garage sale organized by the Genêts d’Anglet football, with the Josette-Celhay club of Kiwanis de Bayonne, which took place in the covered car park of Géant Casino, dates from November 2009. We had the idea of carrying out an operation XXL and it is thanks to this Genêts-Kiwanis association that it was able to come true before, following the change of sign, BAB2 and Carrefour allowed us in 2019 to benefit from their covered parking. »

Volunteers will be present from the early morning (5 a.m.) to take care of the logistics

For this spring edition, Christian Pascassio, vice-president of Les Genêts, Pierre Gourgues, Yves Brettes, president of Kiwanis Bayonne, Jean-Louis Saez, president of BAB2 and vice-president of Kiwanis, Melina Cherakrak, director of BAB2 , and Manuel Balsollier, who has just left the management of Carrefour Anglet, are hard at work. “Before the layout of the larger parking spaces, we were at 350 spaces. We have lost some and we are now running at 300 exhibitors. Last year, the weather helping, we had an extension outside, ”says Pierre Gourgues.

Seats to take

Thanks to the marking, an exhibitor space corresponds to that of a car (25 euros). Exceptionally, there are about fifteen places left for sale. You can still buy them every afternoon at the Genêts headquarters, Choisy stadium (tel. 05 59 63 08 85) or by contacting the Kiwanis (mail to [email protected]). Upstream, it is the latter who ensure the placement of people, but it is the two clubs which will have taken the registrations beforehand. “The car park is divided in two, for the distribution, and then there is a common pot. »

The volunteers will be present from the early morning (5 am) to take care of the logistics. “Kiwanis rather manage the part entering the parking lot and installing under this part of the parking garage. And they are the ones who take care of the cleaning in the evening. Basically, there are about twenty Kiwanis and more than thirty Genêts for the catering part. Bargain hunters can take their time by dining on site where combination dishes, sandwiches or omelettes and fries will be offered. »

Bingo and garage sales, running belts

The large-scale entertainment events at Les Genêts, such as the December lottery which welcomed nearly a thousand participants and the two garage sales, make it possible to keep to the club’s budget established at the start of the season, including investments such as the laundry or lessons given in Choisy after football for the children of Stella Marris and Endarra. The future still belongs to the bold.
