Spring Festival: Flower Parade Takes Center Stage in the Netherlands

Good morning! The weekend has started: Spring is being heralded in a festive way in the Bollenstreek, where the traditional flower parade is running today.

What can you expect today?

  • Today the flower parade runs from Noordwijk to Haarlem in the Bollenstreek. Floats decorated with colorful flowers drive along the more than 42 kilometers long route. The organization has the winners of the most beautiful floats already announced.
  • The May holiday is in full swing and that means crowds at Schiphol. Travelers should expect queues, as the airport expects around 70,000 travelers. But excesses like last year won’t happen again any time soon. Schiphol has hired more security guards and hopes to do so prevent new chaos.
  • In volleyball, the battle for the national title has started. Today the volleyball players from Utrecht and Sneek compete against each other in the second of the best-of-five series. What did you miss?

Having fellow lawyers shocked response on the arrest of criminal lawyer Inez Weski. The lawyer was arrested yesterday on suspicion of participation in a criminal organization. Weski is in complete restrictions and is not allowed to have contact with anyone, except possibly a lawyer.

“To do something so intense, the Public Prosecution Service really has to be firm,” says fellow criminal lawyer Job Knoester about the arrest. “It is very special that this is happening, it is a lawyer with a good reputation.”
