With the advent of September, a different kind of storm is brewing in the four fashion capitals: Milan, New York, London, and Paris, leaving behind artistic imprints, from the reflection of the Hollywood strike, which contributed to the flow of stars to the front rows, through to the distinctive trends that we witnessed in street looks. Style, and formed a reflective mirror of what we will see in Spring 2024It can be summed up as “quiet luxury”, with flashes of the 1990s and 1960s. Through their shows, the designers did not neglect to return to the roots and draw from the house’s heritage, so that their innovations would be a bridge linking the past, present and future… It is as if fashion weeks are assuring us that the world of fashion is a closed circle that revolves around, drawing from the spring from which it started.

The scene on the catwalks is no different from the pulse of the street. Street style looks were reflected in the looks of influencers invited to fashion week events, such as: Nujoud Al-Rumaihi, Karen Wazen, Leonie Hahn, and Marita Al-Halani, who attended the Elie Saab show, so neutral colors such as beige and brown dominated. And mustard, in addition to white, black and navy blue.
Maya Williams, an Iraqi influencer residing in London and an expert on the appearance of some Arab and international stars, believes that the concept of “quiet luxury” is complex and takes a different approach for each person. Some believe that monochrome fashions and neutral colors that mimic the skin represent Quiet Luxury, while others believe that the lines and the iconic classic cut are the basis, even if the fabric is printed or metallic. Maya points out that this style prevailed in the shows of Carolina Herrera and Michael Kors, as their fashions are characterized by a minimalist and elegant classic character, and most of the pieces can be repeated from one season to another. I also noticed that the classic pieces that are part of the identity of the two houses are subject to modification by adding flowers or bright fabric, but they preserved their classicism.
But the most notable trends that caught our attention are summarized in three:
Luxury coats, Pencil Skirt, Little Black Dress.

Whoever follows the fashion shows for the summer of 2024 will inevitably notice the scent of roses, as fabric printed with flowers and embroidered with flowers has dominated fashion. We spotted the pattern at Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, Antonio Marras, and Akris, in conjunction with the fabric dotted with circles and different sizes, as we saw it at Balmain. At Valentino’s show, the house demonstrated to us the sophistication of embroidery with flowers using three-dimensional technology, and executed it on an openwork fabric decorated with holes made in an elegant manner far from vulgarity, as the creative director, Pierre Paolo Piccioli, explained. In turn, designer Elie Saab adopted the romantic character of his new collection.

This season marked a critical turning point; From one designer leaving to another opening the windows of his dream, Gabriella Hearst’s departure from Chloé raises the question marks left behind by her departure after her success in implementing sustainability standards. It is also recorded that designers Peter Do and Peter Hawkings received their assignments with Helmut Lang and Tom Ford. There is also Sabato Di Sarno, who has succeeded in proving himself since his first show at Gucci, by reviving iconic pieces, perhaps the most prominent of which is the Jackie bag, which was named after the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The iconic bag was originally called Constance, but it became Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s travel companion, and she was rarely photographed without the bag in her hand, which prompted the house to change its name from Constance to Jackie.

International fashion shows were a platform to restore the legacy of ancient houses and the joy of beginnings. Saint Laurent was inspired by the nature of safari and desert surroundings for its new collection, so it repeated a collection dating back to the year 1967, and focused on Saharienne jackets and neutral silk jumpsuits. Khaki and brown in all its shades were used, such as caramel and honey mustard mixed with white. Kim Jones at Fendi restored the summer 1999 designs, which were signed by the late Karl Lagerfeld. In turn, the new Versace collection took us back to the spring of 1995 with mini dresses made of crepe georgette, silk, and jersey, with a touch of the sixties inspired by the elegance of the stars Brigitte Bardot and Priscilla Presley.

STARS POWER
The driving force for new talent
The presence of celebrities has overshadowed fashion trends, in some shows, and the participation of iconic models has been a driving force to steal the spotlight, and a smart marketing plan adopted by some houses. Claudia Schiffer also appeared on stage after a long absence from the show Versace Versace, surrounded by new generation models, such as: Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, in the house’s first show after joining the Tapestry group, along with Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo.
We cannot deny the support of the stars attending international fashion weeks for the slogan of women’s empowerment, as evidenced by the participation of international and Arab stars in the Walk Your Worth show, organized by L’Oréal, with the participation of: Mona Zaki, Kendall Jenner, Cindy Bruna, and Helen. Helen Mirren, Aishwaria Rai Bachchan, Eva Longoria… and others.
This summer marked the eighty-ninth year of the birth of the Emporio Armani line, and designer Giorgio Armani restored the house’s iconic designs. The front rows of the shows were filled with stars from Prada, Tom Ford and Valentino. Victoria Beckham’s family supported her, along with a group of celebrities, in her third show, which was held in Paris.
