ACCEPTED, KOMPAS.TV – The UN envoy to Afghanistan assessed that the Taliban was unable to prevent the emergence of ISIS.
UN Special Envoy, Deborah Lyons even emphasized that ISIS is currently spreading rapidly throughout Afghanistan.
Lyons sees the Taliban’s response to the spread of ISIS-K as dependent on extrajudicial detention and the killing of ISIS-K suspects.
“This is an area that should receive attention from the international community,” he said The Strait Times.

His comments came hours after ISIS claimed responsibility for two explosions that killed one person and injured six others in the Shiite community of Kabul.
He also emphasized that the Taliban was unable to prevent the rapid development of ISIS-K.
“Initially, they were limited to a few provinces and the capital, now ISIS-K sometimes appears in almost all provinces and is increasing actively throughout Afghanistan,” said Lyons.
He added that the number of attacks by the group had also increased from 60 in 2020, to 334 this year.
