Could mink farms be responsible for the spread of Sars-CoV-2 in Europe? This virus, responsible for the Covid-19 disease in humans, would it have spread over the Old Continent from fur farms, especially in Italy?
Here is, in essence, the thesis developed in an article published on December 21 by the media Reporterre. A thesis received with caution by Jean-Luc Angot, general inspector of veterinary public health at the Ministry of Agriculture: “These conclusions seem to me to be hasty and the scientific data too scarce. Admittedly, a region like Lombardy, in Italy, has several mink farms and has been greatly impacted by the Covid-19. But in this zone, there are also many exchanges with China. ” In other words, the spread of the virus is more likely to be linked to the movements of men.
