Spotify: Warning! Nasty scam is making the rounds

Whether during a long car ride, while cleaning or in the kitchen – every day, countless people listen to music on Spotify and play one playlist after the other. It doesn’t matter whether music lovers have a subscription to be able to enjoy the songs without adverts or not – Spotify has something for every taste.

But currently, users have to enjoy the benefits of the app with caution. The reason? Nasty scammers are trying to advance their criminal activities at the expense of Spotify users using so-called phishing messages. You should definitely pay attention to these phrases.

Spotify: Customers are being targeted

“Update your payment information.” With this subject line, the fraudsters are currently contacting customers in the name of the audio streaming service Spotify. All those who have taken out a subscription are particularly affected. In the message, the supposed Spotify team demands that customers externally confirm payment information for the premium version, as this cannot supposedly be processed for the upcoming billing period.

The “Update payment information” button redirects unsuspecting Spotify customers to a fraudulent website to enter their personal data. And this is where the trap snaps shut. First signs that the phishing email is an attempt at fraud? “At first, the email seems inconspicuous. However, the impersonal greeting is very unusual,” says a report from the “Consumer Center”. But there are other clues.

Other topics:

The sender address quickly shows that this is not a real Spotify email. The audio streaming service also states that it will never request any personal payment information via email.

Anyone who has such a fraudulent message in their inbox should ignore it and move it to the spam folder as quickly as possible.
