When it comes to streaming services, the competition between Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, Deezer, and Amazon Music is fiercer than ever. But that doesn’t mean they have the largest library of songs behind them.
Unlike video streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney +, and many others, the differences between audio streaming platforms aren’t that big. All in all, you can find anything that comes to your mind when it comes to music, whether you are a fan of Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, Deezer, YouTube Music, or Amazon Music. But there are differences, even if some are only reflected in more or less useless statistics.
SoundCloud is number one, Apple Music is number two, but it doesn’t matter.
SoundCloud is a bit like YouTube for audio content. It’s a streaming service, but since most of the content is “uploaded” by ordinary people, you’re unlikely to find what interests you. In fact, Apple Music has as many songs as possible, around 100 million songs.
Spotify may be the most popular platform in terms of the number of users, but it has the least number of songs, around 80 million. If these numbers sound fabulous to you, you are not alone. Whether you choose Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, or Apple Music, the chances of not finding your favorite songs are next to nil.
Still, Apple Music’s 10 million songs represent a significant difference to the next occupant on the chart. This is so important that I highly recommend that you take a one-month free trial with any of these services before upgrading to a subscription. All of them offer this option and will help you make an informed long-term decision to align your content library with your tastes.
