Spotify update: “Arcade” most streamed ESC song of all time; THE ROOP break the Lithuanian record

The reigning ESC winner Duncan Laurence has more and more success with his winning song “Arcade” even more than a year and a half after the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Just over three weeks ago we reported that the song is now the most streamed ESC winning song of all time, now “Arcade” has also overtaken Mahmood’s “Soldi” in terms of Spotify views and is now even the most streamed ESC contribution ever . This currently “only” applies to the respective original versions – here “Arcade” is 173,934,403 and “Soldi” is 172,352,789 streams – but if Duncan continues to collect so many views, it should only be a matter of time until that also applies if you add the numbers of remixes and other versions.

In addition, Duncan has reached another milestone and currently has over 6 million monthly listeners on Spotify. For comparison: Duncan’s predecessor Netta has almost 730,000 monthly listeners, Lena 1.7 million, Mahmood 2 million, Helene Fischer 2.5 million and Michael Schulte 3.7 million. So you can imagine something with 6 million listeners in a month. Congratulations!

We have already written elsewhere about the reasons for Duncan’s (late) success. In addition to the collaboration with the American singer FLETCHER, this has above all to do with the great hype about “Arcade” on TikTok. The original song has now been used in over 200,000 TikTok videos, mainly in those that deal with Harry Potter and his adversary Draco Malfoy. Here is an example from Duncan himself:

This hype has not only led to many streams for Duncan Laurence and “Arcade”, but also to new chart successes: the song recently returned to the singles charts in both Great Britain and Switzerland. “Arcade” is already holding up in Switzerland in the charts for five weeks and is currently at number 67 – Ascending trend. Let’s be surprised where this will lead.

But there are also Spotify success reports from THE ROOP: Their preliminary decision contribution “Discoteque” has set the previous record for most streams in one week in Lithuania. Accordingly, the song is currently number 1 in the Spotify Top 50 in Lithuania and last year’s contribution “On Fire” has pushed up to number 18. Good prospects for THE ROOP in the Lithuanian preliminary final of “Pabandom iš naujo! 2021 “next Saturday.

Unfortunately, “Discoteque” is still not available in German-speaking countries. On Instagram, the band says that it is a technical problem, but even in a week it was not possible to solve this problem. Since “Discoteque” is also not available on other platforms, the problem is probably more with Warner Music than with the streaming and download providers themselves. Let’s hope the best, because we’re all looking forward to a little disco at home.

We also spoke in detail about “Discoteque” by THE ROOP in our last ESC compact LIVE, which continues as Video and to the Podcast is available.
