Spotify Says Goodbye to Heard: A Music-discovery Game

“Thank you for playing Heard, but unfortunately we have to say goodbye to you. Fans of the game learned the news in a window that appeared on the website of Heard Friday.

The goal of the game – completely free – is to recognize a song by listening to as few notes as possible. Each attempt adds listening seconds, up to a maximum of 16. If you can’t name the piece played, you can still listen to a 30-second extract. You can then share your result on social networks.

Music-loving players can continue to start games until May 5, but as of May 4, their game statistics will disappear.

If you have stats you want to keep, go to your stats and take a screenshot before May 4thcan we read on the site of Heard.

Focus on discoverability

A Spotify spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company wants to focus on music discovery.

However, it had indicated during its acquisition that Heard was a really fun way to expose millions of people to known and loved songs, and new songs too.

The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

Heard was the first game that the Swedish giant had acquired. The title appeared in the wake of the massive success experienced by Wordle, whose name is visibly inspired. This last game was bought by the American daily The New York Times in January 2022, just a few months after it went live.
