Spotify Mexico announced that it will increase the cost of its plans in Mexico as of today, August 17, because Value Added Tax will be charged (VAT) of 16 percent, as reported by its users through an email detailing what the new price will be for the plan to which they are subscribed.
The Swedish origin company noted that the new prices will be reflected from that date, but in the case of having an active subscription, customers will be able to enjoy two extra months with the previous price, so it would be until the month of November that the New rate.
“You will have two extra months with the current price. You don’t have to do anything, your invoice will be automatically updated during your next payment in November ”, he explained.
The new prices of Spotify Premium in Mexico they are:
- University Plan: 57 pesos per month
- Plan individual: 115 pesos per month
- Plan Duo: 149 pesos per month
- Family plan: 179 pesos per month
On June 1, the application of 16 percent VAT to service platforms and the sale of digital products in Mexico came into force, due to the tax reform approved in December 2019.
VAT Law was created in the 1980s, so digital services such as Uber, Netflix, Amazon, Airbnb and others were not contemplated, so now an operating scheme was sought to withhold the tax from which they are obliged to pay users.
