At the end of May, more precisely on May 21, 2021, the music streaming service Spotify (App Store-Link) rolled out a long-awaited feature: offline downloads on the Apple Watch. We also reported at the time about the function that Spotify wanted to integrate with the date mentioned above. The message from the music service said:
“Starting today, we’re introducing the ability to upload your favorite playlists, albums, and podcasts to Apple Watch. All users can already play tracks, albums, playlists and podcasts. Premium users can now also download everything they hear for a true offline experience without a phone. This is in addition to all other Spotify functions on the Apple Watch – from Connect & Control to streaming with Siri. “
With this function, it should then be possible to leave your own iPhone at home and stream music directly via the Apple Watch. “To do this, you simply connect Bluetooth headphones to the Apple Watch and the previously downloaded music can also be streamed offline directly from the Apple Watch,” said colleague Freddy at the time.
Snap from Spotify’s marketing department?
But even now, more than six weeks after the full-bodied announcement, nothing has happened to the users of the music streaming service: the offline downloads for the Apple Watch are still not available. According to Spotify, the feature should be distributed “in the coming weeks”. The function was not yet available on my iPhone or Apple Watch either.
The period seems to have been laid out very generously, because in the last few weeks we have also received numerous inquiries from readers of our blog about when the offline downloads on the Apple Smartwatch can be expected. If you consider the time of the announcement – just a few days after Deezer announced that it would offer offline downloads for the Apple Watch – it remains to be feared that this is a snap from the marketing corner of Spotify in order not to lose market share. Apple Music has also made it possible to save music offline on the Apple Watch for a long time. Spotify should now step up quickly so as not to permanently gamble away the trust of its own users.
