Spotify now allows you to permanently block other users – Marseille News

Spotify is now rolling out the ability to block other users you no longer want to interact with. Previously, you had to contact customer service in order to block other users.

According to Engadget, Spotify “massively updates the way you block another user on its platform, giving you the chance to do it yourself for the first time.”

The post also gives some background regarding the users requesting this feature. For example, it’s been on the right track since 2018, but only in 2019, Spotify starts letting users block artists they don’t want to hear. Although, until now, blocking a specific user was not a thing at all.

For that, proceed as following :

On Spotify, visit a user’s profile; Click on the button; Select “Block” or “Block user” and that’s it.

Spotify says the introduction of a direct blocking feature is part of its continued mission to provide users with the best possible experience while providing a safe environment for them to listen to music and podcasts. You can expect the new feature to start rolling out this week.

If you ever want to unblock the user, follow the steps above again.

An interesting thing is that – while it makes sense to block someone on Spotify since you can see what the person is listening to, their playlists, and other information – Apple Music has always allowed you to block a user. Just go to their profile, click the “…” button and block.

Unfortunately, following someone on Apple Music doesn’t have much of an impact on your listening experience, as it just adds a section on “Listen Now” titled “Friends Listen”.
