Spotify is testing vertical video functionality like TikTok

Another surprise reserved for users of Spotify who tests a new feature identical to one of those of TikTok.

While other applications are already experimenting with the concept, it’s the turn of Spotify to get started. It is the latest app to experience a flow of vertical video similar to successful design by TikTok.

A new video feature for the general public from TikTok?

In version 1 of the test for iPhone, the home page of the application had a brand new tab. This is the tab ” discover “ intended for vertical music clips that users can easily and quickly scroll through as on the interface of TikTok.

For the moment, it remains to be seen whether the new video function will be accessible to all users or if it’s just a test that is never going to appear in the main application. Either way, users are all impatient. In addition, this new tab was discovered by Chris Messina.

Afterwards, a short video posted to Twitter shows the new feature in action. M. Messina affirmed on the news site Techcrunch that he had discovered it in the version TestFlight (name given by Apple beta versions of applications intended for first-time users).

A feature already experienced by other applications?

Other application companies like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram only release their new features to the public after testing them. However, sometimes some are never published after the test.

“At Spotify, we regularly run a number of tests to improve our user experience. Some of these tests […] are only useful for important learning. We have no further news to share at this time. “

YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat also have experimental versions. Short for YouTube, Reels for Instagram and Spotlight for Snapchat.

After taking inspiration from TikTok’s design, Spotify tested and launched a new feature called Discover. However, the announcement of this function has not yet taken place. Finally, it should be remembered that Spotify is not the only application to have experienced this functionality.
