Spotify has made no secret of its desire to increase prices in certain countries. In a survey of subscribers, he is testing different pricing formulas, some of which would imply a significant increase..
At the end of October, when announcing his latest results, Daniel Ek, the founding boss of Spotify, explained that its prices could increase in certain countries, those where its service is already well established. No particular country name was mentioned but in some it was already done. In Belgium for example, the Family formula costs € 1 more than in France (the other offers are at the same price as in France).
Could it be that an increase is emerging in France? In any case, Spotify takes the bath temperature via a survey in the app.
After a few questions on the interest that we can have for its competitors Deezer and Apple Music, the questionnaire proposes five scenarios of price tables. Then he asks each time, in view of the formula chosen by the user, to what extent is he ready to pay the displayed price.
Currently, the “Personal” formula (an account without advertising) is € 9.99, the survey offers € 10.99 at a time. For the “Premium Duo” at € 12.99 (two accounts without advertising) it could go up to € 13.99. The “Student” account always remains at € 4.99.
On the other hand, the “Family” formula is where the increase could be the most important. Faced with the € 14.99 that we pay today for six accounts without advertising (plus one app « Kids » separate) Spotify successively offers € 15.99 (as in Belgium), € 17.99 and even € 20.99.
We wouldn’t be completely surprised to see this subscription formula increase, if only to separate it further from the Duo formula which costs only € 2 less for 4 less accounts. The Belgian example is in any case a clue of what to perhaps expect in France?
