Spotify (App Store-Link) offers a download function for individual songs, albums or playlists. Together with a premium subscription, you can easily save the music you want directly to your iPhone or iPad and listen to it even if you don’t have an active internet connection.
There’s just one problem with this: If you didn’t think about the downloads beforehand and only noticed it when it was too late, then there hasn’t been any music at all. An example from everyday life would be a trip on a plane. Although, you can now surf there via WiFi. So let’s say: You’re suddenly in a classic German dead zone.
This is how Spotify offline backup works
With the offline backup function, Spotify accesses the cached music. These are pieces that you have recently heard or that are still in your queue. There are quite a few songs collected here and you can easily access them even if you don’t have an internet connection.
That’s exactly when the new offline backup feature will appear on the Spotify app’s home page. Spotify also gives us the following tips:
- Make sure you’ve listened to more than five songs recently and have offline listening turned on. You can find this under Settings and then Data storage and Offline or Storage. Look for the offline playback switch.
- You can add the offline backup to your library for easy access at any time.
- Can’t find Offline Backup? Make sure your Spotify app is updated to the latest version.
If you have already accumulated a few songs for the offline backup, you can easily filter by artists, moods and genres while playing without the Internet.
