“Spotify EQUAL FEST: The First Live Music Concert in Spain Celebrating Female Artists and Gender Equality in Music”

Spotify will celebrate Spotify EQUAL FEST, its first live music concert in Spain, on Friday, September 22 at the WiZink Center in Madrid. The concert will be attended by well-known artists such as Nathy Peluso, the singer, songwriter and dancer, she is the first headliner announced by the festival.

she has joined the Canarian rapper Ptazetaone of the artists of the moment in our country whose great songs have not stopped playing since she broke into the urban music scene in 2020.

This will be the second edition of this festival that debuted in 2022 in the Colombian city of Bogotá and which was attended by Goyo, Paola Jara, Lido Pimienta, Andrea Echeverri, Farina, Elsa and Elmar, Ventino, Karen Lizarazo, Juliana Velásquez, Nidia Góngora, María Cristina Plata, Bad Milk and Las Villa

Spotify EQUAL FEST is part of EQUAL, Spotify’s global initiative that celebrates its second anniversary and that aims to promote gender equality in music and give the role that female artists around the world deserve. A program that aims to eliminate the existing gender gap in the music industry so that women artists, composers and producers have the representation and visibility they deserve in the sector.

Thus, in the two years of the EQUAL program, through its playlists, it has achieved more than 144 million reproductions that amplify the voice and talent of hundreds of female artists. In fact, almost 800 women artists from around the world have been part of EQUAL to date.

“There are many more of us, and we claim our space and visibility. That is why I am happy to be part of EQUAL and continue building fairer spaces. It is an honor for me to perform at the Spotify EQUAL Fest with so many incredible women”, declares Nathy Peluso.

In the year 2022, listening to Spanish female artists has increased by 26% in our country compared to 2021

In Spain, among the main milestones of EQUAL in its two years of life, it stands out that the listeners of local female artists have increased by 26% according to Spotify data from the last year. And listening to Spanish female artists abroad has also increased by 36%. Likewise, in the ‘top 100’ of songs in Spain, the representation of local female artists grew by 38%. Some names that stand out are SIMONA, with an increase in reproductions of 40%, and Antía Muíño, with an increase in listeners of 49%.

Regarding the presence of the artists in the playlists, the appearance of female artists on Spotify’s editorial charts has risen 66%. And if we talk about the playlists of global users on Spotify, they have included 23% more female artists from Spain in their lists since the birth of EQUAL.

“We are very proud of what EQUAL has achieved in its first two years. Thanks to our collective effort within Spotify, we have promoted many female artists. Although there is still much to do, we are certain that initiatives like EQUAL contribute to building a industry that represents, includes and celebrates women’s voices,” says Melanie Parejo, Head of Music for Southern and Eastern Europe at Spotify. “With Spotify EQUAL FEST we are going to turn up the volume: the more people listen to the more women, the more opportunities will be created for them to occupy the position and visibility they deserve in the music industry.”
