Spotify Ends Ad Support for White Noise Podcasts: Find Out How This Affects Earnings and Engagement

Starting October 1, the music and podcast streaming service will end Spotify’s ad support for podcasts that simply play white noise.

Spotify has determined that those podcasts that play white noise do not promote user engagement, hence the decision to close access to the Spotify Ambassador Ads program. It’s an opportunity to get paid by the streaming service itself by playing affiliate ads.

These white noise podcasts will still be able to receive money from paying subscribers and third-party advertising. According to information available to Bloomberg, using the Ambassador Ads program, the largest podcasts can earn up to 18 thousand dollars per month.

In addition to this situation, it turns out that, rather coincidentally, Spotify has been promoting background noise podcasts since the beginning of the year. Currently, people listen to 3 million hours of podcasts per day. Thanks to these changes, Spotify could increase its turnover by 38 million dollars. In addition, the service has increased the limit from which you can become a member of the Ambassador Ads program, which is 1000 unique listeners in the last 60 days. This is one of the steps to improve the financial situation of the company, which is still operating at a loss.
