This summer, finally, some towns in Spain will have the privilege of celebrating their festivals again. On the eve of this event, Spotify, the world’s largest streaming audio company, has created in collaboration with some of the most recognized orchestras in the country the first playlist dedicated to these parties: ‘Fiestas de Pueblo’. This list compiles all the songs that the Spanish have danced and sung at the top of their lungs over time in the town squares.
To create this list, Spotify has had the participation of Orquesta Panorama, El Combo Dominicano, Orquesta Zodiako, Orquesta Pekado, Orquesta Buda show and Top Lider. These are just six of the most important orchestras in Spain, some with decades of experience behind them.
“I would define the playlist of Fiestas de Pueblo as the history of Spain in music”, declares Alicia Morón, vocalist of the Pekado orchestra. ”I compare the town festivals to Christmas. You get together with your whole family, with friends you didn’t see before … And that point of union is the one that will lead you to enjoy yourself. ”
“The collaboration of the orchestras to curate this playlist has been key. The list is a true reflection of our culture and pays tribute to the great value of village festivals in Spain. It contains hymns from the most recent that have begun to sound this summer to time-honored rock, rancheras and reggaeton classics, ”says Melanie Parejo, Head of Music for Southern Europe on Spotify.
Spotify has taken the opportunity to take a look at the data of some of the most popular songs that are usually played at village parties. Although starring orchestras, these also live today in streaming. These are heard on Spotify by both young people from 18 to 24 and by people from 35 to 54 years of age.
A significant fact that reflects that the Spanish are looking forward to returning to the festivals, is that during July and August 2020, the reproductions of some of the most popular hymns grew by 100%, being “El Baile de los Pajaritos”, by María Jesús and her accordion, the song that experienced the most growth.
Behind this song is “La Bomba”, by King Africa, a classic from the 2000s whose listeners to the song grew more than 76%. They are followed by “Yo Quiero Bailar”, by Sonia and Selena (59%), and Combo del Monte’s version of “Don’t break my heart anymore” (57%).
The ‘top 5’, of popular songs in the festivals of the towns that have grown the most according to the data of Spanish listeners on Spotify are: “El Venao”, Los Cantantes (52%); “Aserejé”, from Las Ketchup (39%); “The Baile de los Pajaritos”, by Los Refrescos (36%); “Welcome”, by Miguel Ríos (36%) and “Ave María”, by David Bisbal (35%).
Likewise, the listening of some artists during the summer period also tends to grow. A clear example of this is Julio Iglesias, whose views in July and August 2020 grew by 14% in Spain. Some of his songs most listened to during this same period of time are “Me olvidé de Vivir”, “I am a Rascal, I am a Lord”, “Sé Que Volverás” (by Nana Mouskouri, with her collaboration), “My Way” ( with Paul Anka) and “Hey”.
