Jakarta (ANTARA) – Spotify Inc has bought two podcast-related startups, Podsights and Chartable, to expand its business in the industry.
Podsights, quoted by Reuters on Thursday, provides insight into advertising, an area that Spotify says is a big challenge. Meanwhile, Chartable provides audience feedback so podcast publishers can measure the effectiveness of their campaigns.
“Our acquisition of podcast technology players Podsights and Chartable helps us further our goal of increasing the size of digital audio input,” said Khurrum Malik, head of marketing for Spotify’s advertising business.
Since announcing a campaign called “Audio-First” in 2019, Spotify has bought several podcast networks, including Gimlet Media and Anchor, and partnered with popular personalities such as Joe Rogan and “Call Her Daddy” by Alex Cooper.
Spotify also bought Megaphone so podcast publishers could monetize their content.
eMarketer predicts that the value of podcasts could reach US$2 billion by 2023.
Spotify did not provide information on the acquisition value of Podsights and Chartable.
