Spotify buys Heardle, the mobile music quiz game

In a communiqué as of July 12, Spotify announces that it has acquired the music trivia game Heardle.

Born in the wake of the success of the pun Wordle (acquired at the beginning of the year by the New York Times), Heardle daily offers its users the opportunity to find known music in a minimum of tries after hearing the first notes. When the answer is revealed, the game now links to the song on Spotify (whereas it used to lead on SoundCloud).

The music streaming platform has also indicated that the game will remain free. Even better, it will now be possible to listen to the entire song at the end of the game.

Currently, only five countries can take advantage of this redemption: the United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand; but in the future, other countries will be concerned. Thus, the game is no longer available in France for the moment: instead, the homepage invites users to “listen to millions of full songs and podcasts on Spotify for free“.

Spotify announces that it will soon be possible to play the music quiz from the streaming platform. The company, however, has not specified how or when this will happen.
