In the US state of New York, which has been particularly badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, professional sports teams can now train again. After a break of more than two months, professional sports teams of all leagues could start training camps again, Governor Andrew Cuomo said at his daily press conference on Sunday.
“I believe that the sports that can come back with no spectators in the stadium – they should do it. Makes it. Take care of the finances if you can. We want it to work again, ”said Cuomo. “We want people to be able to watch sports.”
Before that, Cuomo had repeatedly emphasized that he was hoping for games in the big leagues – without spectators in the stadiums – this summer. Currently, almost all major leagues have either been suspended or postponed the start of their season because of the pandemic.
The state of New York with around 19 million inhabitants is particularly hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic. In total, more than 360,000 people have been infected there and around 29,000 have died.
