Two-goal scorer Berg saved Glimt
The match between Glimt and Viking at Aspmyra ended 2-2 on Saturday afternoon after two goals by Patrick Berg and two goals by Veton Berisha.
Thus, last year’s league champion has only won one of the last five league matches.
– We try, but do not go all the way, says Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen to Eurosport after the match.
He believes Viking played with a defensive approach throughout the match.
– We got a giant challenge by facing what was actually a six behind, they were extremely low, and we were perhaps not good enough to break them up, Knutsen says.
The 2-2 match opens up for Molde to move further in the battle for the gold in the Eliteserien. The Moldans are two points ahead of Glimt and have two games to spare.
At home in the sunshine at Aspmyra, the Glimt players were in holiday mode for much of the match. Berg gave Glimt the lead on a penalty at the end of the first half, before Berisha equalized shortly after. In the second half, there was a change of role, when Berisha scored before Berg equalized.
One point on Aspmyra is like a small victory for Viking, but it could have quickly ended up with three. A sliver of joy was that Berisha had to come out with an injury after becoming decisive in the match with his equalizer.
Viking is in fifth place, seven points behind table runners-up Glimt, but has also played two games less than last year’s league champion.
For Glimt, the Champions League qualifier against Legia Warsaw now awaits, before Sarpsborg’s turn in the series here at home. Viking, on the other hand, will face Strømsgodset next weekend.
