Sports manager Tomáš Vlasák is leaving Pilsen after nine years in his post, his departure is due to personal reasons and a desire to try something new. The club informed about it through the official website.
“I’ve heard a lot of speculation about my departure over the past few weeks. First of all, I want to mention that I am not leaving the club due to any disputes, disagreements or arguments,” Vlasák denied.
“In Pilsen, I have always valued the fact that I can openly express my opinion. Yes, it is true that I did not agree with the final decision both for some arrivals and some departures. But that’s part of our job,” said the 49-year-old official.
“It’s true that I disagreed with the final decision on some of the arrivals as well as some of the departures.”
The one-time striker took over the manager’s chair in April 2015 – two years after leading the club to a historic title. Behind the scenes, he is eagerly discussing the fact that he should head to Mladá Boleslav.
Vlasák will leave his current position on April 30. “Martin Straka is one of the best people I’ve met in my life. I would like to thank him very much for the opportunity he gave me…”
“I gained enormous experience in Pilsen. I wish the whole club good luck and success in the coming years,” added Vlasák for the club’s website. Under his rule, the Indians reached extra-league bronze three times in four years.
Since 2021, however, they have not once made it past the preliminary round of the playoffs, and in the last two seasons they finished the regular season in twelfth place. That is also why they are planning quite significant changes in the city of beer.
“Martin Straka is one of the best people I’ve met in my life.”
One of them will surely be Vlasak’s end now. “I fully respect Tomáš’s decision and I will not say goodbye to him easily. We’ve been through a lot together, both on and off the ice,” said co-owner Straka.
“Our work paths diverge for good. Even if we didn’t always agree on the matter, we were able to find a solution. Whatever Tomáš’s next chapter will be, I wish him much success and thank him for the work he has done,” Straka concluded his statement on the hcplzen.cz website.
It should be noted that Vlasák worked with limited possibilities in Pilsen. In terms of budget, Škoda cannot compete with more mobile clubs, instead relying on the supply of academy graduates for a long time.
“I fully respect Tomáš’s decision and I will not say goodbye to him easily.”
“Before the season, there was a change in the ownership of the club, which is a positive step,” recalled Vlasák.
“Honza Šmucler was actively interested in hockey during the entire season, and I believe that his enthusiasm will continue, because this connection will move Pilsen hockey to where it belongs…”
He has been active in western Bohemia since 2007, with a short break. And he was indelibly written in the club’s memoirs.
