KFC Uerdingen is testing away at FC Hürth on Saturday.
If it were a question of which city would close the sports fields the fastest, it would have Krefeld a real chance for one of the top spots. On Thursday at 12.30 p.m. the places were closed until Sunday. “Due to snowfall and frost, the pitches, including the artificial turf pitches, are currently unusable. Both the grass and clay pitches as well as the artificial turf pitches are damaged by use. This would result in increased regeneration work,” says an official statement from the city at the request of our editors.
It may come as a surprise to some that the artificial turf pitches have also been closed. After all, it was always said that their advantage was that they could also be used in winter. The city of Krefeld explains: “Substantial damage can occur on artificial turf pitches if training or games are carried out there in snow and ice. Through use, the individual plastic fibers are torn out as soon as ice encloses the plastic fibers. In addition, there is an increased risk of injury when the ground surface is frozen.” The city is “advised on this issue by specialist staff as ‘qualified persons to inspect sports facilities and sports equipment’ and the manufacturer of synthetic turf surfaces”.
In the neighboring town Moenchengladbach the assessment of the weather conditions and sports fields is different: “Currently there is no nationwide closure. If the playability is not given as a result of the weather, a decision will be made on site on a case-by-case basis. There are no plans to block artificial turf pitches.”
Good for the club that has agreed to a test match away from home – like him KFC orderswhich will take place on Saturday (4 p.m.) at the FC Hurth starts. “We got the green light from there,” says Trainer Björn Joppe. The youth games at the SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen take place – it is not a municipal facility.
