(Denmark – Slovenia 2–1) In front of their own in the Park, Denmark secured a ticket to the European Championship in Germany next summer.

The semi-finalists from the last European Championship are the 13th nation to qualify for next year’s championships in Germany.

That thanks to scores by Joakim Mæhle and Thomas Delaney.

“The park is going crazy!” graced the cover of the Danish Ekstra Bladet when Delaney sent Denmark into a 2–1 lead in the second half:

“Huge euphoria in the Park and among the Danish players and support staff. It hasn’t been pretty all the way, but Denmark is ready for the European Championships after an important victory over Slovenia,” writes the Danes B.T.

Pictures from the same newspaper show Danish players with beer in hand only minutes after the end of the match.

It will be the Danes’ ninth European Championship next summer. The 2016 EC is the last time the red and whites did not participate in a championship.

In the Qatar World Cup last year, it was nothing but a failure when they went out in the group stage.

Slovenia would also have secured European Championship play with a win. Rather, it will be a clean final for an EC place against Kazakhstan in Ljubljana on Monday.

The Slovenians keep up with Denmark as long as they at least draw in their last game.

Albania secured an EC place earlier on Friday.

EC-ready England played at home against Malta. An unlucky Maltese and Harry Kane ensured a typical victory for the English.
