Mohamed Salah (31) delivered the pass that drew Liverpool 1-1 against Manchester City. Now the Egyptian reveals that football is not the only thing he is addicted to.

– I play chess, I am addicted to chess. Every day, literally every day, he says Sky Sports.
Unlike a number of other well-known footballers, he has not met Magnus Carlsen (32) – but still refers to the Norwegian world number one by his first name:
– I am good. I’m not Magnus. But I’m good. No one has a chance against Magnus. But I hope we can meet one day, continues the Liverpool star, who was second last on the ball when teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold “silenced” the Etihad in the big match against Manchester City on Saturday:
Salah has a chess rating of 1400, while Carlsen has 2829. That is not the only thing that separates the two on the digital chessboard. Where Carlsen plays online under the alias “DrNykterstein”, Salah apparently plays with his own.
Because in the Sky Sports interview, he talks about what happens when he is going to play:
– I enter my name and some numbers, and then someone asks “Are you Mo Salah”?
– I say “yes”, they don’t believe it and say “You’re lying”. And I say “yes, I’m lying”.
For those interested in football, Magnus Carlsen is primarily known as a Real Madrid supporter, among other things for having kicked off at the Santiago Bernabeu. The chess genius has indeed made use of Salah’s services on the popular game Fantasy Premier League:
When Liverpool won the league championship in 2020, he posted this message on X:
Earlier this year, he visited Ajax when they played the Tata Steel tournament in the Netherlands.
Carlsen also enjoys joking with Real Madrid’s rival Barcelona, and he liked that Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stage last year. The Spanish giants depended on Viktoria Plzen taking points from Inter in the last game. At the same time, Carlsen was playing the World Championship in Fischer Chess in Iceland, but when Inter led 2–0 (won 4–0) he still took the time to mock the Real Madrid rival:
“Good that the Inter game is not even, so I can focus on chess and Barcelona in the Europa League.”
