Sporting recorded their second victory in Group C of the Elite Round of the futsal Champions League, against Haladás (7-2), and will decide the qualification for the ‘final four’ of the competition against Anderlecht, on Sunday.

The lions once again showed the power of their team, this time against the Hungarian team, ending up securing an unequivocal victory.

Alex Merlim was, once again, crucial for the team led by Nuno Dias, scoring a hat trick in the rout of Haladás, after having scored twice on Thursday in the match against Loznica-Grad (9-1).

Very inspired, the Italian-Brazilian winger opened the scoring after just four minutes, following a shot crossed from outside the area. In the second half, Sporting’s ‘magician’ would score two more goals, following a strong shot from distance and, later, through a beautiful ‘hat’, when the Hungarians were already playing with an advanced goalkeeper.

After Alex Merlin’s opening goal, Sporting reached 2-0, in the ninth minute, with a penalty converted by Neves.

However, the Hungarian team reacted quickly, reducing the margin to the minimum following a clear deflection from Cassemiro at the edge of the goal.

However, the green and white team returned to the attack and increased to 4-1 until the break: first, through a surgical shot by Taynan and then, through Zicky, blocking a pass from Pany Varela.

In the second half, Merlin scored the lions’ fifth with a well-placed shot from outside the area.

Haladás reduced it again, to 5-2, through Vas, with a strong shot that surprised goalkeeper Bernardo Paçó.

From then on, the Magyars risked everything, placing the goalkeeper forward (5×4), but they were more exposed and Sporting took advantage of the opportunity to extend the result, scoring two more goals, with a ‘kick’ from Merlin, a pass from Zicky, and in a strong cross shot from Neves.

In the other match in Group C of the Elite Round of the Futsal Champions League, played hours earlier also at Pavilhão João Rocha, Anderlecht ‘dispatched’ Loznica-Grad 8-1.

After two rounds, Sporting and Anderlecht lead with six points – although the Lions have a better goal difference – while Haladás and Loznica-Grad do not have any points.

On Sunday, in the third and final round, the ‘lions’ and the Belgians will decide the winner of the group and, therefore, which one of them will qualify for the ‘final four’ of the Champions League, in which Benfica is already involved.
