It was with good humor that Ruben Amorim commented on Marcus Edwards’ performance last Thursday, in Sporting’s draw at Atalanta’s home.
The English winger was in doubt for the match, after having suffered a serious car accident the day before, but he came on in the second half and scored the equalizer.
«Yes, I think you felt [o acidente], but young people these days sometimes exaggerate. I even offered him my car to see if there was another accident, the way he got in he unlocked the game completely”, joked the lions’ coach.
«He was happy with his birthday, the accident was a shock, he performed well and we think he could be used», he continued, speaking on the sidelines of the preview of the match against Gil Vicente.
The coach of the green and white team also commented on the alleged interest of other clubs in Diomande: «We have had other cases, it depends on the characteristics, the people around him have more influence than the coach. We are very clear, just the clause, and therefore it doesn’t deviate much from that.”
«The central defenders have a lot of quality and are always on the move and if they get distracted, they could lose their place in the team. We know the players we are going to look for and this also comes into play when we sign players. I hope he continues to be a Sporting player for a few years,” he concluded.
