Sporting supporter arrested for throwing chair at police – Sporting

A Sporting fan was arrested today at Estádio da Luz for throwing a chair against two policemen, during the lions’ triumph against Benfica, by 3-1, in the 13th round of the Bwin League.

“During the game, we have to record an occurrence, in which a Sporting supporter throws a chair, hitting two police officers. They were promptly rescued and transported to Hospital Santa Maria. Through our video surveillance system, it was possible to identify the individual and monitor it, until its extraction and subsequent detention is possible”, explained Laura Bicheiro, deputy commissioner of the Public Security Police (PSP), to journalists, after the end of the Lisbon derby.

Sporting won today at Benfica, by 3-1, in a game of the 13th round of the I Portuguese Football League, equaling FC Porto at the top of the standings, with four points more than the ‘eagles’.

“The visit of Sporting supporters to Estádio da Luz went smoothly, without incident. At the beginning of the game, there was a small focus of disorder between Sporting and Benfica supporters, which was quickly remedied by the police officers who were on the spot”, he said, adding that “everything was done as best as possible and resolved on the spot”.

As a balance of the police device set up for the event, Laura Bicheiro understands that it was “a success from the point of view of policing”, also ensuring that “all supporters were [dentro do estádio] in time, before the match starts”.

Sarabia (08 minutes), Paulinho (62) and Matheus Nunes (68) scored the goals of the ‘lions’, who are still unbeaten in the championship and added their eighth consecutive victory, with Pizzi (90+6) reducing for Benfica.

Sporting went on to add 35 points, the same as FC Porto, which leads for having better goal difference, with Benfica, who suffered their second defeat in the championship, being four points behind the front duo.
