“Sporting President Frederico Varandas Reflects on Lack of Regularity and Benfica’s Success in the Championship”

The president of Sporting, Frederico Varandas, admitted, this Monday, that the club from Alvalade “sinned due to some lack of regularity in the internal plan” and highlighted Benfica’s good campaign in the championship.

“Internally, we suffered from some lack of regularity. It is also fair to recognize that the quality of our football game, which is also subjective, is not consistent with our ranking in the League. It is not the quality that makes the ranking, but the points and unfortunately we were not effective in certain games at the beginning of the season and we paid dearly. We paid dearly in certain games in which we were much superior to the opponent, in which we were not effective. I see a very similar game matrix in these three years”, began by saying Frederico Balconies speaking to Sporting TV, highlighting Benfica’s good campaign.

“We drew and we were winning with our rival… In games of greater theoretical difficulty with teams from the Premier League, one we eliminated and the other we drew away and won at home. Against a very strong Bundesliga team we won away and lost here unfortunately and a big refereeing error. We showed that we have great value, but we were not regular. We look at the League and we have a leader who has been very competent, he is a fair leader. He was very regular, even in games where he sometimes does not play well, he wins the games. We, on the contrary, not only didn’t win but we lost some. We are now running after the loss. We are in a good moment. The objective is to reach the Champions”, he stressed.
