LISBON. Viktor Gyökere’s goal success in Portugal continues.
The Swede struck with two goals in just under four minutes, as Sporting turned around and won against Gil Vicente 3–1.
Sporting are thus the new league leaders.
– I should have scored more goals, but the most important thing was that we won, he says.
Viktor Gyökeres, 25, had before tonight’s league meeting with Gil Vicente scored a total of 13 goals in 16 games since signing for Sporting Lisbon last summer.
On Monday night, the team also had the chance to move up in the league, but then a victory against bottom team Gil Vicente was required.
It didn’t start any further for the home team either.
Gil Vicente took the lead in the 34th minute.
But a triple change by coach Ruben Amorim before the second half gave Sporting momentum. And Viktor Gyökeres.

After Sporting Lisbon equalized through an own goal in the 43rd minute, it was time for Gyökeres. He made it 2–1 and 3–1 in the space of four minutes in the second half. The first goal was a hard finish from close range in the penalty area and the second goal was a cross that he headed home. Gyökeres also had two goals disallowed for offside.
Thus, the Swede has now scored 15 goals in 17 games, of which nine in the league game. That means he is second in Liga Portugal’s scoring league and is two goals behind SC Braga’s Simon Banza. In total, the Swede has also made five appearances.
Sporting top the table two points ahead of Benfica.
– It was important that we got a goal before half time. Then we knew we would create chances in the second half and I scored two goals. I should have scored more, but the most important thing was that we won and got three points.
– I love playing here at home. The supporters were fantastic and I’m enjoying it, says Gyökeres to Sport-tv after the match.
