Sporting’s B team went to play on Saturday against Académica with black smoke, in memory of the seven-year-old child who played in the Coimbra club’s youth teams and who died in the middle of last week from food poisoning.
It was Académica herself, through a post on social media, who reported on the noble gesture of the lions’ secondary team.
«Without any prior request from our club, [o Sporting] he joined in our mourning and on his own initiative proposed to play with a black armband on all of his shirts. A gesture that we can only thank and record.”
The Académica and Sporting B players also entered the field accompanied by children belonging to the Briosa team and wearing shirts with the message “forever one of us”.
The game ended in a goalless draw.
