Sporting and the University of Lisbon renewed the protocol that has united the two entities since 2007, and which allows the lions to use the facilities at the Lisbon University Stadium for training classes.
In a statement, the Alvalade club informs that it will also invest more than three million euros in the space.
«The transformation will involve the construction of new football pitches, remodeling of synthetic pitches, construction of benches and nine new changing rooms, as well as the use of the swimming pool at specific times for the competition and the remodeling and expansion of the administrative building. These improvements will serve men’s and women’s grassroots football, swimming and rugby», it reads.
The ceremony, it should be noted, was attended by the president of Sporting, Frederico Varandas, and the Rector of the University of Lisbon, Luís Ferreira, among others.
«I want to thank the Rectory for the effort, it was a long renovation because it went beyond the previous partnership. This agreement is more ambitious because we will have more fields, three of them with benches, build nine changing rooms and have an administrative area with better conditions. We will also have better conditions for rugby, with a new field, as well as more hours of use of the pool for competitive swimming», stated Varandas.
«This is extremely important for Sporting CP, not least because it is part of the Club’s sense of duty and social responsibility to provide these excellent infrastructures for the use of Lisbon students. Furthermore, Sporting CP’s youth teams are fundamental to the Club’s development and we will continue to invest. This was a very important step, but we will take more until 2026. Big news is coming,” he added.
