The country’s sports journalists were recognized for their efforts in 2023.
Then Sportbladet’s Johanna Frändén and Erik Niva took home the heaviest prizes.
– It’s fun – you shouldn’t deny or downplay that, says Niva.
It is the audience that votes for this year’s sports journalists at Guldskölden.
On Monday evening, SvenskaFans announced the result:
Johanna Frändén and Erik Niva were awarded two prizes each.
– I usually check how many nominees Sportbladet has every year to make sure we don’t lose ground and no, we don’t, says Fränden.
The two best sports journalists of the year
Since Erik Niva’s first “Sports Journalist of the Year” shield, he has had a monopoly on the award. Monday’s award was his 13th in the category.
– When it comes to accomplishing things over time, I am convinced that the key lies in maintaining curiosity and enthusiasm. I actively try to confirm that. It’s not that damn easy in today’s football world – but the match is alive, the ball is rolling. Although a lot goes to hell with football, the referee hasn’t blown the whistle yet. I’m still curious to see what happens next, says Niva.

New for this year is the category Female Sports Journalist of the Year – in which Linn Nordström and Frida Fagerlund were nominated and Johanna Frändén won.
– Erik has owned that award for many years. But being nominated together with Frida and Linn this year felt solemn and really good. Then everyone who works at Sportbladet knows that our strength is teamwork, it has always been that way and that is what makes it such a fun workplace that people stay for a long time, she says.
Honorary award
They are especially happy that it is the audience award.
– I value this award more than anything else. Since it is perhaps the most engaged sports consumers in Sweden who are the core of this vote, it is worth more to me than any jury award, or anything else that can be compared. And certainly nothing I take for granted, says Erik Niva.
Johanna Fränden:
– If you don’t win, you can easily dismiss audience awards with the fact that the audience doesn’t know what journalism is about (almost only journalists know that). When you win, it suddenly feels amazing that so many people like what you do. But then, of course it’s fun, I’d be lying if I sat and relativized this award right now.
In addition to best sports journalist, Erik Niva was named expert of the year.
Johanna Frändén received the Gold Shield’s honorary award.
– I am happier for that than the prizes I won. It is fantastic that she is being made visible as the extremely influential industry changer she has been and remains. It has been very clear when I worked next to her for so many years that she is a role model – for those who might not have found our corner of the world if it weren’t for Johanna. She should really be sorted into a tradition of Jane Björck and Kristina Kappelin figures. She is one of the truly greats in what we do. It is extremely gratifying that she gets a public receipt for that, says Erik Niva.
