Berlin (dpa) – The German Olympic Sports Confederation has welcomed the announced relaxation of corona by the federal and state governments and called for a nationwide approach.
“The resolutions of the federal-state group finally give the 90,000 clubs a perspective for a real comeback of sport,” explained Thomas Burmester, CEO of the DOSB. “But this timetable also needs to be binding and must also be implemented nationwide. Above all, Sportdeutschland now expects politicians to be able to plan reliably for the next few months.”
The decision by the federal and state governments provides for relief from March 4th. From March 20th, all far-reaching protective measures against the corona virus should then fall. So far, practicing sports and training and competitions are still subject to numerous conditions and are only possible to a limited extent.
The DOSB also expects the federal government to support mass sport after the pandemic, as announced in the coalition agreement. “The last two years of the pandemic were difficult times for sport and 2022 will also be a challenge for the clubs. Reversing the loss of members in the clubs will not be a sprint, but a marathon. This requires a joint effort by the federal, state and the sport,” said Burmester.
